Half Term

First day of half term and the weather out look is bleak!

Today force 11 storms will be hitting the UK, where i am is right on the edge of the predicted path so its hit and miss as to whether it will be bad here, but even so its been lashing down with rain throughout the night and this morning, so its definitely an indoor day.

For me i find there is a real cosy feeling to staying in on a dark rainy day when you don't have anywhere you have to be i don't think the kids mind occasionally either, they always seem to manage to dig out toys they haven't played with for a while as they have spent the summer playing outdoors, and we all love to get the games out, monopoly being our favorite even though they are only 4 and 7, the game of life and junior scrabble as well as jigsaws, even i got hooked on those last winter and and enjoyed doing Wasgij, which are puzzles that have no picture just clues and you have to work out what the scene is. I started with 500 pieces but found some 1000 ones at a car boot sale for £1 each which i have been saving.
Heres some of the games stash!

But we could also all curl up an the couch under our warm blankets and watch a film! That would give me some time for crochet!!!!!

I went to my favorite wool shop yesterday and picked up a few supplies....i needed one ball of brown wool for a Rudolph hat and came back with...

It wouldn't be so bad but i already have
Two (above) pop up laundry baskets full and a cupboard full
Plus this basket lives next to my couch!!!
And that just the wool i won't go into the other fabrics and buttons and.... you get the jist!!
It definitely brightens up a dull day.
But i did manage to do the hat i wanted

As it was the last week of term it was time for the school Halloween Disco and as it was Mollys first school event and also its another excuse to get the sewing machine out so i set to work making her a witches out fit. I had seen i tutu style skirt on the web somewhere with a crochet waistband but i could not find it again so as i usually do anyway i made it up as i went along and this is the skirt i came up with.

And the top and gloves. When she got home from school and saw it she was really excited. I will put some pictures of her in it later in the week as we are going trick or treating on Halloween.

This week i am hopeing to finish the Rag rug and also Freds Jumper, but it might be a slow week with the kids off.

Bye x

Minnions!

As its getting a lot colder now and i have been reading about how next month will begin the worst winter for years then i thought i should probably get a move on and get some hats and gloves made for he kiddy winks.
I asked what they wanted and Ewan decided on a Minnion hat from the film Despicable me. So i had a look and this is what i created.
Little did i know how popular it would be! it seems every one wants one, i have made a few this week and this morning been asked to make some more.

Molly wanted Lalaloopsie
This is so cute!

I have also been asked to make some Christmas hats so watch this space i think i will start so later.
I feel at such a loose end without my two big blankets to work on, how ever i have started my first t-shirt rug which i am hoping to finish next week.

Bye xxx

Crochet Along Granny Square Blanket. TA-DAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After reading some blogs on the web i discovered Crochet along (CAL) and thought they sounded good and that i would try one. After searching the net i found one that had started the day before. This was back at Easter. It would be a Granny square blanket with 99 Square and we would be given 3 squares a week to work on. The site is www.knotyournanascrochet.com

Each week if we posted pictures of our squares we got entrance to a draw, the prize was to pick a pattern from the sites patterns for sale. So for the first 20 or so weeks i posted most weeks but unfortunately i never won anything.

I even managed to Crochet with baby Fred lying on me!

Once i have quite a few squares i started to put them together.

I used a Single crochet (us terms) to join them together and really liked the effect. I had finished every square in a lime green wool that for some reason i had about 8 balls of so i knew i would all match.
After i had done 64 squares i decided to stop as i wanted the blanket for over the back of my couch and it was the right size.

So here it is  TA-DAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't have a great picture, but this one shows the shell edging i did.

I love this blanket, as the weather is starting to get colder i have been snuggled up under it most evenings whilst sat watching telly and knitting baby things. It really does make me feel happy and snugly and warm. Last night i even took it up to bed with me and even the hubby admitted it made a huge different and he didn't want to get up this morning it was so warm, he has now requested that it stays there for the winter!.

The CAL is still going on for another few weeks so head over there and have a look x
