Hot Ice Show and Ripley Belive it or Not!

As promised to the kids Monday was a day out to Blackpool, but separately. Lots of attractions are quite expensive and its nice to spend some time one on one with them (think i spoke about this before) so i decided that sometimes if there is something that one will really like, but isn't really what the others would enjoy we will just go on our own.

I decided to do both the Ice Show for me and Molly and Ripley Belive it or not for Ewan, i did them both on the same day and i bought 1 adult and 1 child day ticket for the tram and used it for each journey (was quite pleased with this really small saving!)

So i started the day by dropping Molly with my mum, Fred was at nursery for the morning, then me Ewan and Ali set off for Ripleys. Its years since i was last there, must have been maybe 15 the last time. Ewan is fascinated by all the facts and has read the last couple of books, he has such a curious and inquisitive mind
The kids love it on the trams

This wooden train was a gift from Ringo Starr to Britt Allcroft who wrote Thomas the Tank Engine

As a knitter i had to take a picture if this, its a blanket and if you look at at straight on its just plain garter stictch

Then if you look from the side.. you see a picture, the camera just captured it

did you get it? the Queens head like on a stamp

The africa section with shrunken heads freaked Ewan out a bit and he was ready to leave.

We visited South Pier and i saw this statue of a horses head above the old front of the building, as you can see they have since put up a new facade on the front so you can only see the original art deco structure from the side. Its a shame they cover up , what is prberly a really nice enterance with the tacky one.

Ewan finally got his wish granted and had a go on the Kart 2000 track on the prom. He couldn't see over the top so had to lean to the side.

We got the tram back and sat in Nana and Grandads Garden for a few hours before setting off with Molly for the Hot Ice Show

We decided to go out for tea at the Velvet Coaster and we sat out side on the balcony and people watched the holiday makers.

We walked to the Arena around the corner and bought fresh doughnuts on the way!
Molly was in awe of the show and desperately wants ice skating lessons and has been asking Daddy ever since. We are going to go and see Disney on Ice in Manchester next month.

For me it brought back memory's of when i had lessons as a child, to be fair the whole ice drome ( aside from the new bar area is exactly the same as when i used to go there and lets put it this way , it needed doing up then! I can't believe noting inside has changed at all. I also did my work experience there in the costume department of stageworks, it was the most amazing 2 weeks ever and i found it so hard to go back to school after having that opportunity, i was aloud to wander round the vast hangers that housed thousands of costumes and all the glorious show girl feathers. I watched the rehearsals and helped dress the dancers and even help with  Little and Large costume fittings. The manager of the department gave us assignments to do like design various costumes etc, it was truly amazing and with my love of sewing that i had back then, just like now, i decided it was what i wanted to do, only they didn't take apprentices and to work there meant getting a degree in art and fashion and at the time i didn't think i would be able to do that as i can't draw that well, little did i know then that it would not have mattered and that art is not all about drawing, ultimately i really didn't want to go to collage, its a big regret really as it could have been a well loved career. I did sign up for night school while i was in the last year of school and did a theatrical costume making course. There was another girl doing work experience at the same time from another school, she was a bit older than me and seemed really glamorous and confidant, i remember trying to copy her makeup and that's still how i do it today. We were allowed on the ride during lunch and we had lunch in the staff canteen, when the two weeks were over we wrote to each other for a while, her name was Jodie Prenger, she went on to with the Andrew Lloyd Webber show on TV!

It was great spending tome with each of them and we have lots more trip planned in the future xx
